Barns & Yard wedding venue at Hanley Hall is relatively new and they have only been hosting weddings for a short time, but they really have set the bar high. This place is just amazing, and I am sure it will become one of the go-to places to have your wedding. The attention to detail is remarkable and from the moment I arrived, I knew this was going to be a photographers dream
Katie was already getting ready in the bridal suite with her bridesmaids so I headed over to capture the fun. As the wedding was at 2:30pm we had plenty of time to relax and enjoy the morning, and it’s a question I am often asked; should I have an early or late wedding? I really think it depends on whether or not you are a morning person. Time goes pretty fast during the preparations! This morning, everything was going well. Including the bridesmaids enjoying some early morning pasta!
With Katie and Lewis both getting ready at the venue, I could move effortlessly between them both to get photos. It’s a good idea if your venue has the room. Everyone was just taking their time to really enjoy the morning, but I could feel the excitement building the closer we got to the ceremony. The area in the barn for the ceremony is so beautiful. The amount of natural light that comes in means it doesn’t matter if it rains, if the wind blows or even if it snows.
One thing I was thinking about was just how cold it was outside with the wind. Thankfully, the courtyard provides quite a bit of protection from the worst of the wind. Little did I know that Katie had full commitment to heading outside to the lake to get some photos. We managed to drag all the gusts outside for a confetti shot and a big group shot of everyone, but after that, Katie Lewis and I headed out in the November cold to get some amazing images down by the lake. I have to say, I was mightily impressed by Katie and her utter resistance to the freezing wind. Katie was relaxed, composed and happy to pose with Lewis, even if only wearing a wedding dress with almost no protection.
We got the shots easily enough, before heading back inside to join the party. With any wedding I photograph, I aim to keep the formal shots to just enough time to get amazing photos, but not so long that anyone gets bored or goes missing. It’s important to me that everyone can enjoy the day, relax and have fun.
The whole day was perfect, and much of that is down to Barns & Yard and the people that work there. They really now how to make a wedding a special day.
A big thank you to Katie and Lewis for inviting me to be part of their wedding. Here are just a few of my favourites from the day.
