This was my first time photographing a wedding at Grittleton House, and I have to say, it’s one of the great wedding venues you can find in Wiltshire. With 30 acres of stunning grounds, and an impressive mansion house, this place is epic for weddings. Without question, as a wedding photographer, places like this are a dream. There are so many locations inside and outside that you are spoilt for choice, and it’s one of those venues that it makes no difference if it’s raining or sunny outside. Both the interior with it’s impressive staircase and ceilings, and outside in the beautiful gardens, you have so many wonderful opportunities for amazing photos. When you have a wedding here, you really do feel like you are in a movie, or at least on a film set. It’s been used in a few programs and films before.
The bridal preparations we so much fun, I knew Louise and some of her bridesmaids from previous weddings so it was wonderful to see so many familiar people. And, the bridesmaids did not let the side down when it came to making the bride laugh (and me too). The morning flew by, and it was not long before I was outside getting photos of the hand built mini AC Cobra replica. An impressive car to say the least. Even though there was no way on earth I would fit into such a small car, I was slightly jealous that I could not drive it myself. Needless to say, it was a fitting car to have a such a venue. I’m also tempted to build one myself, but I’d never get to drive it.
Soon, it was time for Louise to take the walk down the staircase with her father. It’s a significant moment of a wedding, but when you have a staircase such as the one at Grittleton House, it’s just that little bit extra special. Despite everything, Louise was cool as a cucumber, and looked awesome in her dress from Suzanne Neville. Bradley was the same, relaxed and ready at the end of the aisle. I was not sure if we would see him shed a tear, but not today.
Once the ceremony is over, it’s outside into the impressive gardens to relax, mingle and drink. Although there was a little wind blowing, the afternoon was relaxed, fun and enjoyable. As with any wedding, I rattle through the formal group shots in a short amount of time. I do recommend a good amount of time for the couples shots as it’s a good moment for the bride and groom to have some time on their own and to speak to each other.
The day finished with a stinking party I the evening, and again, the bridesmaids really took it upon themselves to rock the dance floor. Huge thanks to Louise and Bradley for inviting me to be part of their day. It was truly wonderful. Hope to see you at the next wedding.
